Raspberry Pi Model A

This week I received an early Christmas present from Eben at the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Thanks Eben! I'm very lucky to get my hands on a pre-production Raspberry Pi Model A and will be putting it to good use!

Scheduled to be on sale at RS Components mid Jan/early Feb 2013*, the Model A is the latest offering from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Offered at a $25 price point**. The Model A is basically a stripped down version of the current shipping Model B. The main difference between the two is that the Model A has no MagJack and Ethernet Phy, a single USB port and 256MB of SDRAM.

Due to it's lower power consumption, the Model A is ideal for those with battery powered applications. The lower price point and stripped out MagJack giving it a lower profile, also makes it even more attractive for system integrators. It's also ideal for those of us at home who are looking to use it as a low cost media centre.

Heres more info about the Model A
*Availability to be confirmed
**$25 price excludes Tax and shipping.
