Arduino Pro Mini layout

Hopelessness

United Kingdom

Hi all,

I'm new to DesignSpark (and PCB design in general), and I want to integrate an Arduino Pro Mini into my project, by soldering pins on the Arduino and headers onto my PCB.

My question is, how do I lay out the headers to ensure they will be exactly the same as on the Arduino?

Obviously there is no Arduino library, and I don't want to get the PCBs made only to find out they are wrong!

Thanks all,

Phil

Hi Rob, It would be great if you can share how you get on. If you have some boards built and verified you could post up your DesignSparkPCB files so we can make them available to others in the Arduino area. I'm working on publishing an RS parts list for Arduino which I'll share once its ready.

I have successfully imported the Arduino Uno (Eagle) reference designs into Design Spark, using the Eagle conversion macros supplied with DesignSpark 3.0.  However because there are 26 components missing from the component library in Design Spark, I then get stuck making any schematic or PCB layout changes.

Has anyone created the additional components in Design Spark that are necessary?

You can Import Libraries, Schematics and Board designs from EAGLE to DS.

There is 3 routines in the documentation.

They can not be directly copied, as they're designed with cadsoft eagle. But Designspark PCB has an eagle import function which I did not find the tutorial on. I do not know if it's possible to export/import board layout files. If not, you could just download the free eagle software, open the board layout file (http://arduino.cc/en/uploads/Main/arduino-pro-mini-reference-design.zip) and measure the distances manually with the tools provided in eagle.

And by the way, I know the eagle import tutorial is somewhere next to the help section in Designspark PCB, but I don't have it installed on this computer and I didn't find the tutorial on the internet.

All of the design files for the Arduino's are open source and available from the Arduino website. Can you not copy the header section of those files over to yours?
