Christmas Tree Competition

As the festive season hits us squarely in the face (or tummy in my case - I like Christmas pudding!), our good friends at TraceParts have launched their fifth Christmas Tree Design Contest!

The concept is simple:  create a Christmas tree using design software, incorporating 3D models downloaded from TraceParts' online catalogue.  And as the tens of thousands of 3D Models in the DesignSpark 3D Library are all hosted by TraceParts, you can include them too!  Finally, using this finely crafted link you can download Google's free 3D design tool, SketchUp.

The prizes - an iPod Touch, a Kindle E-reader and a digital photo-frame - would all make a nice little Christmas present for yourself.  So why not give it a go?  DesignSpark can provide you with everything you need to get started.  The rules and instructions are all available on the TraceParts website, along with a gallery of last year's entrants to give you inspiration.  Here is last year's winner...

Hi Jose,

The contest is actually quite simple:

1) start your preferred CAD software, like SolidWorks, Pro/E, etc. or Google SketchUp

2) go to www.tracepartsonline.net, register (it's free)

3) make your catalog selection and then your part selection: there is no restriction, you can make your own choice

4) download each part in your preferred CAD format and add them to your CAD software

5) design your best Xmas tree :-)

Good luck!

Hey,

Think have not totally understand the bases of the contest..

The design part would be ruled by Google SketchUp's interface ONLY or by DesignSpark?

Are there any parts/components/libraries that MUST be used in the designing process?

Thanks so much!

Jose
