DesignSpark PCB - Why must new Components use unique Component names?

Each library must have unique Component names.  We recommend using the manufacturer’s part number for components – you can add descriptions, values etc to make them easy to decipher.  Different libraries can use the same Component name but not only is this bad practice, it is also a dangerous thing to do!

 

DesignSpark will only use the first library item it comes to if there is more than one item using the same name. It uses the Search List in the Folders page of the Library Manager to find the first item.  For this reason you should always create your own library folders, ensure they are first in the Search List and only use components from that folder on your designs.
