How do I share DesignSpark PCB libraries with the community?

Expert reply

Step 1 - Create a .zip file containing the library files output from DesignSpark PCB (please use a descriptive filename)

Step 2 - Open the "Share knowledge" form on the DesignSpark website

Step 3 - In the "Title" field put the title of your library

Step 4 - In the "Overview" field add a brief description of your library

Step 5 - In the "Details" filed add a more detailed description of your library

Step 6 - Choose "DesignSpark PCB Library" from the dropdown menu in the "Information type" field

Step 7 - In the "Supporting materials" part of the form click "Browse" to locate your .zip file then click "Upload"

Step 8 - In the "Description" field put the name of your library

Step 9 - Click "Share Knowledge" at the bottom of the form

That's it, you're done!

A list of libraries currently available on the DesignSpark community can be found here:

I have craeted a pcb outline for an RS enclosure which is quite tricky to produce within DesignSparks PCB, so was produced in another CAD package and imported into DS PCB. Can these be shared?

Does this make ANY SENSE to ANYONE? In order to find a library (that is, the one most critical piece of information that would make your product more useful to me), I have to not only follow a multi-step process, but the process is so obscure that people have ASK how to do it!

What the *!

DesignSpark, please browse over to www.cadsoft.de. Note that right there, on the home page is a "download" link. And when I click that, there's a "libraries" link. And that when I click that, there's a list of library files I can download, with descriptions.

Why, DS, do you make it so damned hard for your users to use your product?

Hi,

We're currently in the process of building a list of libraries. You'll find what we have so far here:

What's the licensing of these shared libraries? Creative Commons or similar as with SparkFun's Eagle libraties would be very helpful, especially for Open Source Hardware projects.

// I'd post a link, but that seems to trip this forum's spam filter :-(

Great question - here's how:

Go to the 'Explore' section

browser by information type: in the 'by information type' section, locate the 'DesignSpark PCB library.

There you have them. Download them and extract the files into your DS library folder. When you start DS the new libraries will be there...
