MPLAB vs MPIDE

raivisr

chipKIT challenge rules state that code has to compile using Microchip MPLAB, which implies that each entrant has to own PicKit3 to upload code to MAX32 board.
Is that typo in rules or RS is going to send free PicKit3  to each of the entrants that get chipKIT MAX32 board?
Maybe MPIDE was actually meant to bu used as development tool?

Hi Graig,

0023 works for me. I am able to compile, download and  run some examples such as  communication -> ASCII.

I am using windows 7. Did you download it from Arduino site,?   that version does not have support for

Max32, it has to be downloaded from Digilent site. I am seeting all boards including PIC32 Starter kit, but I could not download into that, perhaps becuase the boot loader is for Microchip MP LAB IDE.

Cheers,

IMO, the IDE should have been given a different name, else there is a confusion for all users who has used MPLAB IDE, since we used to refer to it as MPIDE, (by practice of course). Probably a note is need at your terms page for the conest.

Hi kn3tech.

Yes. this was a mistake. Please accept our appologies.  We have changed all references to say MPIDE.  We will also be sending a competition update e-mail out this week and it will include a note about MPIDE.

here - http://www.designspark.com/chipkitchallenge/enter
and http://www.designspark.com/chipkitchallenge/rules refers to "Microchip's MPIDE" which is not quite true, as MPIDE is not Microchip's product
and http://www.designspark.com/chipkitchallenge/terms refers to Microchip MPIDE as well.

You should probably make some loud anouncement regarding this as @HSPalm on twitter brought this issue up as well (or rather first).

I tried both versions 0023 and 1.0. Neither one lists the ChipKit or MAX32 as one of the boards that it supports. The clock is ticking and the development software that we're are supposed to use doesn't work. Now what?

We have a board running ver 0022 20110822 and it works fine, so If you are having problems, perhaps try this version?  https://github.com/chipKIT32/chipKIT32-MAX/downloads

We will check out the later version as well and advise.

UPDATE:

We've also got in running now on 0023 version
