What's best for connectivity? Test Gear to Test Gear to PC to DUT?

How do you make a good connection is  avery open question.

From Test Gear to Test Gear? from Test Gear to pC? From Test Gear to DUT?

and even before that Test modules within the PC, modular instrumentation or rack & stack

 

but we all have experiences that are worth sharing as we engineers tackel the next challenge. Buy bucket loads of Logic Analyser grabbers and throw them away when broke but you can't with an expensive microwave connector. If you don't use a good torque wrench you can be fritter away monet faster than at the tables

 

So what's your experiences and tips on making a good connection?
