Funny question. I use windows both at work and at home, even though I prefere linux. I think of switching back to linux every day, don't know what's stopping me. Thumbs up for all big embedded applications based on eclipse and other cross-platform supported. Switching from windows when working with specialist hardware is not always easy.
I think it's really impossible to say any operating system is the best, as everyone has differant needs.
I only have expeirience on Windows and Ubuntu. Windows seems to have the best compatibility and support. Ubuntu is great because it's open-source, but I hate the new GUI, as I find it slow and fiddely, still, maybe thats just me.
I know several blind and vision impaired people, so whenever a question like this comes up, I often comment on accessability. The screen reader that Microsoft includes with Windows is totally useless, the magnifier at least works though. I will say that Apple and Ubuntu must both be condoned for including a full feature screen reader, magnifier and braille output in their OS. I'm not sure if any other OS has these, but I know that OSX and Ubuntu do, and that's great! Actually, for that matter, all apple products have a built in screen reader from what I've been told. Nice one Apple.
