Lost Components

Avatar Posted by Blackdog at

I recently upgraded to v4 and have an issue. I created or changed several components in v3, specifically their PCB packages. Now I can't find them. Not every component has this issue, but a few critical ones do. If I try to update the components it reverts back to the stock package and completely changes the board layout. Is v4 saving these custom parts in a different location or do I have to re-create the packages?

It is looking in the wrong folder for your library, change it in Preferences.

      I have the same problem.

I add my userLibs folder where I stored my own libraries to the list of library folders in the Folder tab of the Library Manager window, but it seems it is not found.
None of my libraries, created with v3, are retrieved.

Is this an incompatibility in the format of the library files ?

My libraries are all listed, but the pcb footprints still don't show up. Since I use the software's default locations for saving where would it have put the footprints?

While working on a big design it never occured to me adding to existing libraries (resistors) with E24 values would be a problem. I did create new libraries for most other parts. But after updating to v4 I have lost all of these and as far as I can tell, all my new PCB footprints. I'm not kidding, but this looks like weeks of work to put right.
If I decide to carry on I intend to create all new libraries for my own use, that I hope will not be subject to software update problems like this, again. Was I really that stupid to not consider the update consequences? Is there no way to get back to v.3 or was it overwritten?

      The plot thickens.

I imported libraries from MODELSOURCE and can't use them !

They are listed under File / libraries.

But they are not listed when I try to pick them to insert into the schematic.

There is no tutorial to be found, all weblinks point to busted pages ( Unavailable )

Further to yesterday - I decided to restore my computer to prior to the update. Opened up v.3 and found that my project/schematics are now v.4 and can't be opened by v.3! So this isn't a way out.

Once removed DS3 and installed DS4 old libraries are still in same location and not modified by DS4 installation. Select library editor (book), select folder slide, select ...\DesignSpark PCB\Library and enable this directory were all old libraries are.

I have not experienced any problem yet with my old library and standard libraries supplied up to DS3 verssion.

      Hope this helps

NOTE: I have all my libraries and designs back up before new installation.

      Did this issue get resolved?

I have few dozen custom components, most of which were added to existing libraries, and they are not available now. I was copying and pasting within the schematic so I didn't realize that when I upgraded they were all gone, and of course when I translate to PCB ~%50 of my parts have "failed to add component" error in the log.
When I right click on a component in the schematic and click properties and click on the component tab and click "change" it appears to search through the libraries for it and then simply brings up the list of all library components and does not list the component anywhere. Am I SOL with the upgrade?

I suppose a few bugs are to be expected from free software, over all I still like DS.
