Can't display Description by default

Avatar Posted by SSEM1998 at

I have a component where I want to display the Reference name and the Description by default, but not the Component name. So in the Properties dialogue in the Component Library Editor I tick 'Reference' and 'Description' and untick 'Component'. In the 'Description' box I provide a word e.g. 'FRED' . click on 'Apply', then 'OK', then save and exit the editor. Now on a clean schematic sheet, pull up the component, and the Description is not displayed, though the Reference is, and correctly, the Component is not displayed.
This sounds like a bug to me. Anybody know of any solution?

      Hi SSEM1998,

This one is not a bug actually, what you have changed is properties of a copy of the library component. So if you pull it again from libraries you get a non-edited copy. What you need to do is to go to library manager CTRL+L and edit the component. Go via Edit>Properties and by saving changes there you get an edited master copy that will always have the desired parameters displayed as you have defined them.
