Saving ModelSource downloads to a defined library?

Avatar Posted by Unknown Source at

I have been doing some trial and error between my PC and laptop and found the best way to deal with created or downloaded parts was to create a networked library accessible by both of my machines. (I tried putting all of the libraries over the network but that ran unbelievably slow when I tried to search for parts).

I love the new ModelSource integration into DesignSpark though it always downloads the part to a relevant local folder - which is great for most cases but not mine. I can't find a way to set a default download location... either a set local library (that I could sync over my network) or an external library (NAS based).

Does anyone know how to do this? My current work-around was to create a library on the network then download the part, search for the part and copy to the networked library - which is a real pain but it does work.

The answer to my question is yes.

Here is how I did it....

First entry in the Libraries was set to the networked folder, download as per normal and it created a 'DownloadedLibraries' folder inside the existing folder. Add this folder to my libraries on the laptop and job done :)

Not the best way but it works without me having to do extra work!

      Sounds like a good solution!

DesignSpark PCB is using the DownloadedLibraires folder to ensure the ModelSOurce files are separated from other library files. You will find a UserLibraries folder which is intended to store any files downloaded from ModelSource but modified/adjusted by a user.

You are right networked use is not required by most users but it is something we are looking into as more and more users want to collaborate with other co-workers or colleagues
