Drift From Grid (Schematic Editor)
Posted by Hiroshi YOSHIKAWA at
Reproducible procedure
1. Select more then one component that has off-grid text
2. Move cursor to off-grid text on one of the selected components.
3. Drag them or Press "M" key.
4. Then Selected Components drift from grid!
Best Regards.

Hi Hiroshi,
What do you mean 'drift off the grid'? I do not observe any unusual/unexpected behaviour when following your steps. Remember that the component is locked to grid with its symbol origin so if you want your design to be 'in phase' with your symbol then make sure both are defined with the same grid settings.
Hope this helps

Hi Mike,
Nothing occurs?
Detailed procedure is following
1.Add two Components "2510-5002" from "3m.cml [in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\DesignSpark PCB\Library"]"- 1.png (20.4 KiB) Viewed 227 times
Then their refferences are CONN1 and CONN2.
2.Select two Componets CONN1 and CONN2.
3.Move cursor to the Text of CONN1 Pin No.1.- 2.png (10.68 KiB) Viewed 227 times
4.Drag them or Press "M" key.
5.Then Selected Components drift from grid!- 3.png (10.95 KiB) Viewed 227 times
CONN1's Position is 19270,23185
while Text No1's position in symbol library is 19505,20140. (130,15 relative to Symbol Origin)
Symbol Origin's position in symbol library is 19375,20125.
6. I think Text "1" was snapped to the Grid.
19270+130 = 19400, 23185+15 = 23200 => ON GRID (Grid = 100 thou)
Best Regards,
Hiroshi. -

1.Add two Componets "2510-5002" from "3m.cml [in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\DesignSpark PCB\Library"]"- 1.png (20.4 KiB) Viewed 373 times
2.Select them.
3.Move cursor to Text "1" of the "CONN1"- 2.png (10.68 KiB) Viewed 373 times
4.Drag them and see property of "CONN1".- 4.png (17.87 KiB) Viewed 373 times
CONN1's position is 19270,23185.
While Text 1 's relative position to symbol origin in symbol library is 130,15.
I think that Text 1 was snapped to the grid.
Text 1 's position is 19270+130=19400 , 23185+15=23200. (grid setting is 100 thou) -

Hi Mike,
I confirmed that the problem is fixed in ver. 4.1.
Thanks. -

Hi, Mike.
I found that the same drift can occure In Ver.5 .
Two 90 degree rotated components can be driffed.
For example,
1. Pres Ctrl+G , Set to "Grid". Set Working Grid to 50.00 thou.
2. Add component two "RA_2POT " And rotate them to 90 degree.
3. Select them and move cursor to one text "10k" of two.
4. Move them . Then two components are driffed.
R1 gate a position is 9900.00,6475.00 , angle =90.00 (=off grid)
R1 gate b position is 10400.00,6475.00, angle =90.00 (=off grid)
a Text "10k" position is 10100.00,6650.00,angle 90 (=on grid)
another Text "10k" position is 10600.00,6650.00,angle 90 (=on grid)
Best regards, Hiroshi.
