DesignSpark for Professional Use?

Avatar Posted by daveegg at

You may not get the answers you are looking for on here as only a tiny fraction of users ever visit the Questions & Answers pages.

However, on the Connect page It looks like a total of around 27,000 users are involved in Hardware & Software design, or just Hardware design.  On Hobbyist it’s 4780 and Students 8774, after that a raft of ‘other categories’

So, this would imply a great many are using DesignSpark PCB in a professional capacity

    Hi there,

I am new to DesignSpark PCB and I am about to give it a try to see how it compares with some of the other popular CAD packages out there such as Cadence/Allegro and OrCAD.

How many people here use DesignSpark to produce professional designs or are most people using it for home projects and hobbies?

With regards to the included/available library of PCB footprints, does anybody know if they conform to the IPC standards?

Are there any plans for this software pakage to be able to output ODB++ format files? or is it gerber files only?

Looking forward to running through the tutorial for DesignSpark to see how it works well for me. I will probably be back with more questions when I get stuck.

    Thanks.
