Im looking for a micro ultralight GPS module. I want to build an ultralight solar powered RC plane. The radio module I think Im going to use the 433Mhz RFM22 from HopeRF, and will be used to transmit the data to the plane without landing it and controlled landing. I found interesting the mini GPS from sparkfun, but Im unable to find it right now! Does anyone of you know any GPS module similar?
Thanks very much for the answer. Perhaps I didnt explain properly. Im looking for a complete module with embedded antenna. It would be nice also if it were not expensive :D, Im looking for something similar to this one, because this is retired:
Think they have one with an on board antenna. I guess if it's not too big and heavy, they might have a small eval board that includes the patch antenna that you could easiliy interface to your 433mz radio. I really like the sound of your project, it would be great to see a video post here of it in action!
Be careful with 433 Mhz this is inside the 70cm world wide amateur band and some transmissions in 433 Mhz or close up frequency may interfere your transmission. Notice UHF coverage extends dramatically when the receiver-transmitter antennas are in sight and usually amateurs use more than 10W transmitters with well installed antennas on building roof to increase coverage.
Interference can be an issue, I guess it depends on whats arround you! For 433Mhz, I think 10mW is the max legal output power allowed in Europe, For ground applications, range can be limited, however, ground to air you can go along way! They use 433mhz for tracking weather balloon's upto 22 miles (The Edge of Space), but i'm not sure you'll need to go that high :0) A good antenna design will dramatically improve performance... however this is where you need to have a little RF knowledge and start looking at antenna length and groundplane design....
