Details

Company:

Internationally Renowned Forensic Data Capture Company

A specialist innovator of high-tech digital intelligence and evidence gathering solutions used globally by military, law enforcement and corporate organisations.

Product:

Desktop Mobile Phone Interrogation System

Application:

Digital data extraction for mobile phone and datacards

Background:

The customer originally approached BVM in 2005 to design a briefcase-style system that could be used by police and military customers to interrogate mobile phones and data cards for evidence collection purposes.

Working closely with the customer, BVM was tasked with developing a desktop system to compliment the original portable units, in response to ever changing market needs. The new unit has multiple card readers and connectivity to all common mobile phones and has the ability to store data onto a DVD for archive purposes. BVM’s technical expertise complimented our customer’s proficiency in the software and marketing of the finished product.

BVM have been producing the units ever since, making on-going design improvements to respond to changing user demands.

The Problem:

  1. To produce a system for data extraction that wasn’t a conventional PC, which accommodated the police’s specific requirements.
  2. The unit had to have a specific function so as not to be confused with or used as a traditional PC as it was required to produce forensic evidence.
  3. The system had to be easy to use without complex training.
  4. The unit had to be self-contained, compact and easy to set up.
  5. The unit had to meet stringent forensic criteria to ensure evidence would not be compromised.

The Solution:

BVM designed a solution with a strong and reliable system to meet the customer’s exacting specification:

  1. A self-contained data capture solution with a large touch screen
  2. A forensically sound media card reader
  3. Incorporated smart card reader
  4. Integrated CD/DVDRW

BVM resolved issues in the integration of third-party devices and peripherals, whilst supplying the units with a customised operating system and customer’s software installed.

The Outcomes:

  • The customer’s product is utilised in police and armed forces across the world.
  • The client has achieved a significant market share as a supplier of systems into the mobile data capture and analysis market.
  • BVM has enabled our client to generate sales in excess of £2.0M and kept it as a leader in this developing market.
