Overview
It is essential to have high quality, reliable batteries in a meter to ensure they meet the working life expectations of that meter. These have increased recently in many SMART meters to greater than 10 years. Further to this the batteries must support data acquisition and data storage.

These requirements are tough for a battery to meet especially when you also state that depending on where the meter is situated the temperature fluctuations could be huge too over the course of one year, affecting the performance of the battery too.
